SEEU Delegation Participates in the EUA University Funding Forum 2026 in Brno, Czechia

Sustainable funding, academic freedom and the values universities create for society were among the key topics discussed at the European University Association (EUA) Forum, where South East European University was represented by its senior leadership.

The delegation of South East European University (SEEU), led by Rector Prof. Dr. Sadudin Ibraimi, together with the Rector’s Advisor, Academician Abdylmenaf Bexheti, and Secretary General Nebi Xhemali, is participating in the EUA University Funding Forum 2026, taking place from 14 to 16 October 2026 at Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic.

Held under the theme “For a University of Values”, the Forum has brought together representatives of more than 450 European universities and provides an important platform for discussing higher education funding policies, exchanging institutional experiences and strengthening cooperation among European universities.

The discussions focus on the efficiency of university funding, the relationship between invested funds and the values and outcomes generated by universities, as well as the challenges facing national higher education funding systems. Particular attention is also being paid to the impact of funding mechanisms on institutional autonomy and academic freedom, the inclusion of international students, and universities’ contributions to academic, scientific and social development.

Another strategically important topic at the Forum is the role and sustainability of European Universities Alliances, supported by European Union funding. In this context, discussions address the creation of lasting value through inter-university cooperation, as well as the prospects for the continuation of this major European initiative. SEEU is a member of the European Universities Alliance ChallengeEU, through which it contributes to advancing academic cooperation, digitalisation and institutional capacity-building across the European Higher Education Area.

As part of the Forum’s programme, Rector Prof. Dr. Sadudin Ibraimi and Academician Abdylmenaf Bexheti attended a session dedicated to funding sustainability and the importance of securing stable funding for universities, particularly amid global and regional uncertainties. Meanwhile, Secretary General Nebi Xhemali participated in a session on the financial sustainability of universities, focusing on the challenges of financial management and the long-term prospects of higher education institutions.

For South East European University (SEEU), participation in the Forum represents an important opportunity to strengthen its position and cooperation within the European Higher Education Area by exchanging experiences with partner universities and discussing sustainable models for institutional development.
