Incoming students & staff

Your home university has nominated you for your student exchange period at the South East European University (SEEU) and now you need to apply. Before applying please be sure that you have been nominated by your home University and that you have previously received an email from SEEU with the instructions on how to apply!

The documents you need to enclose to your application form are:

1. Application form
2. Curriculum Vitae (English)
3. The Learning Agreement (signed by the student and Home Institution)
4. Grade Transcript
5. Certificate of Enrollment
6. Nomination letter
7. Copy of the ID card (both sides) / Passport (first page with the photo and personal data)
8. Proof of English knowledge if you are following courses in English – B2 level (all kinds of certificate, from different language schools are accepted).

All applicants are kindly requested to respect the APPLICATION DEADLINES which are as follows:

• 10 May for the 1st/winter semester / academic year
• 10 November for the 2nd/summer semester

Exchange students must demonstrate a proficiency in English (or Albanian/Macedonian), minimum level B2 according to the European reference framework.
Accepted language tests are:

• official confirmation of language instructor at the home university on university letterhead with original signature and stamp/seal
• TOEIC 700 (Oxford Campus : TOEIC 750)
• TOEFL IBT 79 - CBT 210
• IELTS 6.0
• Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE)

Students who speak English or Albanian/Macedonian as mother tongue or study completely in English in their home country (not only in isolated courses) do not have to submit a language test.

VISA

Citizens coming from a country that has a visa-regime with the Republic of North Macedonia need to apply for a visa via the Republic of North Macedonia embassy in their home country before departing.

IMPORTANT! Please bear in mind that the visa application process might take up to several weeks or even months so do try to file your application as soon as possible.
You might need the originals of your "Letter of Acceptance" for your visa application; if so, please let us know as early as possible so that we can send it to you via mail in time and do also provide a shipping address.

EU/SWISS CITIZENS

All foreign citizens – irrelevant whether a visa is necessary for their entry in the Republic of North Macedonia or not – are obliged to register themselves in the nearest police station within 24 hours of their entry in the country.

HEALTH INSURANCE

All exchange students must have health insurance during their stay in Republic of North Macedonia.

1. All exchange students are required to take out a travel medical insurance that is valid during the entire period spent in Republic of North Macedonia. The ensured cover must be at least 30.000 EUR and include repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical care and/or emergency treatment in a hospital.

Student services consist of different information and advice centres /offices for issues concerning studies and student life at the South East European University. Services include the International Relations Office, University Computing Centre, and Office for students with disabilities and many more. They are dispersed all around the University, and some faculties have their own services.

Estimated monthly living expenses

Student living expenses will vary according to individual needs and the ability to budget and manage finances. In particular if you want to travel a lot and take full advantage of the available cultural and social opportunities, expenses will be higher. The estimates below are therefore only a very general guide.

*This is only a rough guide and students may actually spend more or less than these amounts.

Campus dormitories and Private Housing

International students can choose between the SEEU dormitories or organize accommodation on their own, i.e. look for private rental accommodation. Rents vary greatly according to location, room size, facility etc. Overhead expenses are sometimes included in the price, and sometimes are paid by the consumer. Payment is usually expected at the beginning of the month, while some landlords request payment for several months in advance. The best way to do this is to search for different offers through rental agencies Elinor or Twins house.

Public Transportation

There are two ways of public transportation – mini-buses and buses. They operate from 6:00 - 20:00.

Taxis

Taxis are quite common in Tetova. You can find them in front of all institutions and major places, the train and bus stations and at numerous other central locations.

Student Restaurants

There is a campus restaurant and many other restaurants outside the SEEU campus, as well as down town. These restaurants are usually open from 8:00 to 24:00.

Money Matters

Currency:

Denar (MKD) is the currency in Republic of North Macedonia. There are coins of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 denars. Banknotes have denominations of 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 denars.

1 US$ = 51,6 MKD

Credit Card Services

Mastercard - Eurocard, VISA, Diners Club and American Express are widely accepted in shops, hotels and restaurants. There are many ATMs in the city.

Banks

Banks are generally open to the public between 8 am and 6 pm. You may change foreign currency in denars at all banks. In money exchange offices, the exchange rate is somewhat more favorable and the service is generally faster. There are many such offices in the city and they are usually open between 8:00 and 17:00. On Saturdays the banks are open between 8:00 and 12:00. On Sundays and holidays both banks and exchange offices are closed. Currency exchange is, however, possible at hotels’ reception desks.

Telephone, Postal and Internet Services

If you have a mobile phone you can easily buy prepaid starter sets which cost around 200 denars and include 100 denars coupons as well as SIM cards. The networks that exist are VIP (075,076,077,078), T-Mobile (070,071,072) and Lyca Mobile (079) and their SIM cards can be bought in newsstands or stores. They also offer prepaid wireless Internet service.
The Central Post Office is located in main city square.

Shops

Working hours:
Weekdays: 8:00 to 20:00.
Saturdays: 8:00 to 20:00.

Sundays and holidays: Pharmacies on duty 24 hours and groceries at bus/railway stations from 8:00 to 21:00.

Pharmacies are all over the city and you can easily locate them by their green cross.

Drinking Water

Water is drinkable and of a high quality in the public water supply system throughout the country.
