The International Law study program aims to provide a range of modules that will form the basis of information and advanced knowledge on International Law matters for the purpose of training students to basic legal professions related to this field by providing solid knowledge, the specific and systematic institutes and concepts of International Law and on the situation and their prospects in the region and world.

The Law Faculty diploma is recognized by the Chamber of Lawyers and Notaries in RNM. Exercise of legal professions requires formal registration in these rooms. Graduation in the Faculty of Law enables students to approach the relevant state bodies, especially in judicial branch as courts and public prosecutors. The Law Faculty has signed cooperation agreements with the Academy for training of judges and public prosecutors in the RNM. Students who will have the ambition to deal with scientific research work, the Law Faculty of SEEU, enables the continuation of the studies-PhD studies. Students in this program also, professionally are trained for all occupations in the field of diplomacy, diplomatic and consular law, international organizations and human rights, institutions of international private law and to work on diplomatic and consular service of the country and international courts and arbitration.

Knowledge and understanding
  • Has solid knowledge of the disciplines that conceive of international law including the Law of the international organizations, human rights, international public law, international private law, international criminal law, international economic law and international relations.
  • Has knowledge of advanced techniques and methods of research in the field of international law.
Applying knowledge and understanding
  • Is able to interpret the theories of international law and relevant cases from practice.
  • Applies theoretical knowledge in practical situations that arise in the field of international law as the protection of human rights, diplomacy, disputes and collision of laws including the negotiations and mediation.
  • Synthesize knowledge gained and apply them in specific circumstances.
Making judgement
  • Performs more critical thinking through methods of analysing and comparing.
  • Develops skills of solving problems through case-law practices of more complex national and international cases.

  • Utilizes proper terminology for complex and specific issues in the area of international law sciences.

Semester 1

  • [MCIL1012] [6 ECTS] International Public Law
    The course consists of study of cases in public international law, and includes some practical work in the respective institutions, which may include research to students in groups.
  • [MCIL1011] [6 ECTS] International Relations
    The course deals with the analysis of behaviour and relations of states and other actors in international politics. It is structured in a way that shows the evolution of thought about international politics through a historical retrospective of the basic relations between the states war and peace, later through authors works presents two main conceptual trends in international relations in today's world. Also, in this case study the relationship between law and politics in international society.
  • [EMIPL0020] [6 ECTS] International Arbitration
    The course focuses on the systematic processing of concepts and institutions associated with this alternative way of resolving disputes including arbitration agreements, the types of arbitration and arbitrators, the arbitration proceedings, decisions and remedies and the recognition and enforcement of judgments foreign arbitration. In circumstances where the resolution of civil and legal disputes by the courts as public authorities is increasingly criticized for its inefficiency, on the other hand, arbitration provides parties an acceptable environment of discussion, procedural simplicity, speed and efficiency; being increasingly promoted as an alternative recognized by the legal orders of all modern countries worldwide.

Semester 2

  • [MCCL2011] [6 ECTS] International Private Law
    Through this module, students will gain advanced knowledge of legal resources to be applied to regulate the civil-legal relations with foreign element (national and international) and mode of regulation of civil-legal relations with foreign element (direct and indirect) that is characteristic only for this module) and the general elements and joint formation and implementation of the IPL by the facts that show foreign elements (facts of identification), and connection points through which institutions avoid application of the merit law.
  • [MCIL1013] [6 ECTS] International Humanitarian Law
    In the context of this module, the focus will be on the fundamental institutions of international law in armed conflicts, which cover internal armed conflicts and civil wars. Emphasis will be placed on its resources, namely the Geneva Conventions on international humanitarian law and additional protocols. In conditions of extremely rapid development of this discipline in order to include multiple internal conflicts and their legal regulation of the humanitarian aspect, special emphasis will be placed in internal armed conflicts.

    The course provides advanced study of international-legal framework of processes, functioning and termination of diplomatic and consular relations, the legal rules of the legal system of RNM affecting diplomatic and consular issues and key elements of diplomatic protocol and diplomatic practice of RNM.

    Students will be able to: - To apply the main methods of legal and other research. - To collect research material in a critical way that is relevant, and which are cited by the authors in their responses. - To understand the scope of the research and access to various methods of research, being able even to their critical review. - To study the relationship between legal theory and research practice through an advanced approach. - To apply skills and knowledge learned in their theses.
  • [MCIL1015] [6 ECTS] International Conflict Resolution
    The course includes in-depth study of techniques and procedures of peaceful settlement of international disputes, diplomatic and judicial and quasi-judicial. In particular, the confrontation (management) of conflicts is studied as an extremely aggravated form of dispute and, in particular, the treatment of disputes with cultural identity.
  • [MCCR2030] [6 ECTS] International Criminal Law
    After successfully completing the course, students are expected to have gained a solid knowledge of the concepts and scope of this discipline, the rates in ICL, the repressive powers and jurisdiction of the states, extradition, asylum, transfer of criminal procedure, criminal legal aid, cooperation and the corpus of international human rights and international powers over criminal cases.
  • [CM171] [6 ECTS] EU Law (Applied Program)
    The main goal of the course is to acquaint students with the Acquis Communautaire, on the one hand, as well as the procedural part in creating, adopting and implementing the same law, on the other hand. More specifically, students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the legal system of the European Union as well as with the law that that system generates in relation to the union itself, the member states and their citizens. At the same time, students will be introduced to the sources of this specific first, its types, as well as the work of the Union institutions. Particular attention will be paid to the procedural part in the adoption of new legislation as well as the work of the European.

Semester 4

  • [MCCR4010] [30 ECTS] Master Thesis
    This module enables students to transfer their skills and knowledge to research and make more complex task of Master-Thesis. The module is designed to be fully practical and students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to approach writing the thesis. The module has unique return result-to enable students to write the master thesis with minimal difficulties, and with maximum efficiency. The course aims to improve research techniques and style of writing paper, taking account to stop illegal means, such as plagiarism and infringement of copyright, which are prohibited by the Statute of SEEU.
