The study program on Legal Studies aims:
- to realize the needs of those who foresee their careers in the field of legal sciences.
- to offer students a number of modules which include the foundations of legal knowledge in order to bring them nearer to professions related to law.
- to provide sound and systematic knowledge on the foundations and institutions of the positive law of the Republic of Macedonia.
- to provide basic knowledge for the fundamental concepts and principles of the positive law in the Republic of Macedonia and the way it functions in the international context.
- to offer possibilities for lectures by international visiting professors.
- to develop critical awareness for the law in its comparative, historical, economic and political contexts and to offer students various theoretical concepts related to legal studies.
- to provide students possibilities to study abroad in the framework of student exchange programs.
- to offer a series of options which will enable students to study in specific fields of law
- to enable students to take part in research activities related to their studies.
- to offer possibilities for the development of personal, communication and research skills which are required for the employment of graduated lawyers in the institutions that the SEEU Career Centre has already established contacts.
- to emphasize the multi-lingual education and to promote inter-ethnic and inter-cultural dialogue.
According to the acquired knowledge and skills from this undergraduate program, the graduated students from the Faculty of Law will be able to identify the legal issues which are to be investigated, to use the primary and secondary sources of law, to conduct research, to value in critical way legal issues in theoretical and social-economic aspect.
The diploma obtained in the Faculty of Law is recognized in the Republic of Macedonia and abroad.
The diploma of the Faculty of Law enables students access to governmental institutions, especially institutions related to the administration of justice such as: courts, public prosecutors, advocates, public notaries, the executive, etc. The Faculty of Law has signed cooperation agreements with the Academy for Training of Judges and Public Prosecutors of the Republic of Macedoniaand the Advocate Chamber of the Republic of Macedonia.
For students who wish to continue their careersin research science, the Faculty of Law offers additional programs in master and doctoral studies.
Knowledge and understanding
- Has fundamental knowledge of legal doctrine and the processes through which law is created, developed, and changed including the sources and institutions of law in its wider context;
- Has a sound understanding of fundamental areas of law, including Constitutional and Administrative law, Civil law, Business law, Labour law, Criminal law, Civil and Criminal procedure and International law;
- Has knowledge of the structure, components, and functioning of the Macedonian legal system and its relation to European and international law;
- Understands the socio-economic and historic context in which legal rules operate.
Applying knowledge and understanding
- Identifies and applies core principles and rules in areas such as Constitutional and Administrative law, Civil law, Business law, Labour law, Criminal law, Civil and Criminal procedure and International law;
- Identifies legal problems as they arise in a variety of factual contexts and can propose solutions to them;
- Uses a variety of scientific methods and techniques to write independently and research in an area of law.
Making judgement
- Identifies, interprets, analyzes, and solves legal problems in a manner expected of a new lawyer;
- Interprets and synthesizes the reasoning of legal rules as part of a legal system and applies it to a variety of real-world situations;
- Evaluates critically existing legal rules and ethical rules that govern the legal profession.
Communication skills
- Communicates effectively in writing and in speaking with public and private subjects;
- Drafts and edits basic legal documents such as requests, complaints, contracts, wills and indictments;

History of Law
The course aims to: - To familiarize students with the historical development of the law and the State, and the main legal and social notions. - To gain knowledge about the historical development of the legal opinion in a way that students can understand legal opinions in the past and present. - The students should be able to distinguish socio- legal formations in the past and to understand their evolution. - Students to gain knowledge about the historical development of specific parts of positive law (civil, criminal, administrative, family and inheritance law, etc). - Students should be able to understand the logic of functioning of the State and the law in ancient civilizations and in the Middle Ages and to create ideas by connecting them with modern times.

Introduction to Law

EU Law
After completing this course, the student is expected, at least, to be able to know the essence and the volume of EU Law, to have a complete view on the organizational and legal structure of the EU in accordance with the changes that were introduced with the Lisbon Agreement; to be able to interpret and apply correctly the provisions from EU Acts; this will enable students to study further in a detailed manner the more specialized legal disciplines which deal with the EU Law.

Constitutional Law
Objectives of the course: - Gaining knowledge about concepts, phenomena and institutes of constitutional law and the State institutions in the Republic of Macedonia (RM) including here the various theoretical positions on them; Gaining specific knowledge on constitutional law as a science and legal branch, including a comparative analysis of the situation and perspectives of the same in regional and European domain; - Through this module students will acquire basic theoretical and practical knowledge about the organization of state power in the RM as well as about the freedoms and rights of man and citizen; - To encourage critical thinking by students about the basic issues related to constitutional order in the RM as well as in the EU by taking into account the profile of a European lawyer that in the future as an expert will need to interpret and apply the European constitutional law both at national and the European level; - The course will address the relevant issues in constitutional law in a comparative and a national perspective because in an era of globalization, constitutional law can not be understood if considered solely in national terms; - The course will also cover: the new Rules of Procedure of the Parliament which has a key role in developing parliamentary democracy in the Republic, the new laws regulating constitutional issues such as the laws related to the judiciary, local government, electoral system, civil society, defence, foreign policy, etc.; - Besides this normative component, the course will include also the practice of the central government bodies in the RM such as the Assembly, the Government, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court which play a major role on constitutional law as a science; - Also it will include constitutional amendments of 2001 that have a major impact on the “majority democracy” in the RM and the fundamental values of the constitutional order of the RM as well as the constitutional amendments of 2005 in connection to the judicial reforms in the RM; - At the end of the course, students will be able to make fundamental and substantive differentiation between constitutional institutions, their interconnection and their practical operation; - To make the necessary theoretical and practical differentiation of concepts, phenomena and institutes of constitutional law; - To describe and analyze the various processes within the constitutional system and the order of the RM in all aspects of the constitutional life of the country, which means the life of persons, citizen, state and ethnic communities;

The aim of the study program Civil Law is to provide students with basic knowledge in this area. After the completion of the semester, students are expected to have gained knowledge related to the notion and scope of civil law, the subjects, the principles of civil law, the sources of civil law, the legal capacity and capacity to act, the civil and legal relations, the legal affairs, etc. It is expected that students will develop awareness on these institutes as well as critical skills to approach the law and legal argument in the field of civil law.

Administrative Law
The course framework includes studying Administrative Material and Procedural Law. It focuses on the principles of organization, operation and scope of the administrative authorities, the main activities that constitute the administrative functions, administrative acts and the relationship between citizens and administration. The objectives of the course consist in that students can: - To define and understand the concepts of administration and administrative functions; -To recognize and analyse the legal framework that governs an organization and functioning of public administration in Macedonia; - To recognize the main activities of the administrative office; - To distinguish between the types of acts of the administration and to adopt the first steps to creating such acts; -To learn the types of administrative supervision; -To recognize mechanisms of control of the administration and its accountability to other state bodies, but also to their clients-users of its services; -To acquire abilities and skills for future employment in the organs of administration of RM, NGO Institutions and all Institutions that deal with subjects of administrative legal nature.

Family and Inheritance Law
This course deals with the legal relations in the family, marriage and child rearing. After presenting a review on the types of families during the history, this course is focused on contemporary topics, i.e. the situation in the Republic of Macedonia regarding these relations. After completing this course, the students are expected to have acquired knowledge about: the notion and object of family law at national and international level; the sources of family and marriage relations; the conditions of entering into marriage and their forms in the case when the spouses are Macedonian citizens, or in the case when one of the spouses has foreign citizenship; miration and care under national and international regulations. In the course of inheritance law, the students are taught the legal regulation of inheriting the individual property by other people in the case of that individual’s death. This course deals particularly with the legal basis of inheritance, the intestate inheritance and number of degrees according to the Macedonian law, testamentary succession, the possibility of making a will and the types of will, the conditions of the validity of a will, the moment of transfer of the property from the deceased to the heirs, the notion of legatee, etc.

The purpose of this course is for students to acquire basic knowledge in the field of criminal law. Upon successful completion of this course students are expected to have gained a solid knowledge regarding topics taught related to criminal law, criminal offenses and the criminal liability of the perpetrator, and the sanctions and other legal consequences of the offense committed. Law of Obligations
The goals of the course are: students will acquire knowledge about the fundamentals of the Law of obligations and the particular types of obligatory relations. Through the process of education, students will acquire knowledge that they may need in the field of circulation of the civil subjective rights. In the field of the general knowledge on obligations, students will learn the skills needed for the application of the general institutes of the law of obligations in the particular types of obligatory relations. In particular, students will be equipped with the skills of negotiation, of concluding and performing special kinds of obligatory contracts as well as the studying of the mechanisms for the dispute settlement about the fulfilment of debtor obligations. In torts, students should acquire knowledge about ascertaining the extent of the harm and the recovery of loss. Moreover, students will also acquire knowledge about some other types of obligatory relations (unjust enrichment, unilateral declaration of will, etc.).

International Criminal Law
The purpose this course is for students to acquire basic knowledge of international criminal law. Upon successful completion of this course, it is expected that the students have gained solid knowledge on the notion and scope of ICL, related norms, repressive nature of the authority and jurisdiction of the State, extradition, asylum, transfer of criminal procedure, criminal legal assistance and cooperation, international human rights and the jurisdiction of international criminal courts. After completing the course, students are expected to be able to discuss the concepts learned through arguments; to be trained for substantial research in regards to the concepts at issue: to assess the merits and correctness of the relevant international judicial decisions.

International Private Law
Through this course students will acquire basic knowledge about: - naming the course (why it is called international law, and why private law); - distinguishing the civil law relations from civil relations with a foreign element; - the legal sources that have to be applied to regulate civil law relations with a foreign element (national and international). - the method of regulation of civil law relations with foreign element (direct and indirect choice of law rules) method that is characteristic only for International private law. - the general and common elements of creation and implementation of international private law, the facts by which the foreign elements appear (facts of identification), the connecting points as well as institutions through which the application of competent law is avoided in International private law.

The goal of the course is to offer students sound knowledge on Civil Procedure Law. After the completion of this course students are expected to have acquired a sound knowledge regarding the basic features of contentious procedure; the principles of contentious procedure, the subjects of contentious procedure, institutions of contentious litigation, jurisdiction, parties in litigation, special contentious proceedings; non-contentious procedure; executory procedure. After completing the course students are expected to be able to give arguments in discussions regarding the acquired concepts; to be trained for essential research in respect of the same concepts: to assess validity and legitimacy of the relevant court decisions.

The Labour Law and Social Security course will enable students: - to become familiar with issues that are an integral part of labour law, starting from the fundamental premise that each of us one day will be employed and therefore the knowledge of labour rights represents a struggle for a better quality of life; - to learn about various aspects of exercise of the rights and performance of duties and responsibilities from labour relations as well as legal institutions in the field of labour; - to study the labour relations in practice through the procedure of employment, entering into employment contract, exercising and protecting the rights, the responsibility of employees, termination of employment i.e. termination of the validity of employment contract; - to create specific legal acts relating to institutions covered by the positive law in the field of labour relations in the Republic of Macedonia; - to provide various forms of student participation and to incorporate the possibility of gaining more points from classroom the activity;

Family and Inheritance Law - Applied Program
By studying the subject Family and Inheritance Law - applied programme, the Faculty of Law students will be expected to gain deeper knowledge of national and international legal regulation of family relations, and contemporary inheritance jurisdictions in Europe and inheritance law in the Republic Macedonia. In the area of family law - students through the study of this section will focus their knowledge in the modern forms of family relations, international regulation of these relations as well as modern - legal regulation of biomedical insemination, new mechanisms for alternative settlement of domestic-legal disputes - family mediation. In the area of family procedural law, special attention will be given to practical training by monitoring simulated court proceedings. In the field of family law - students will acquire knowledge for the most important features of inheritance legal systems in Europe and other countries worldwide, with special emphasis on inheritance and inheritance law in the country. Students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the procedure of transferring the inheritance to the heirs, with the technique of execution of the distribution of inheritance through hereditary lines. From this subject students will be expected to learn how to interpret provisions from the Law on inheritance of the RM. The subject "Family and Inheritance Law - applied programme" will aim at fostering scientific research work in students through specific tasks for which students will be prepared for each subsequent lecture in order to foster their creativity and desire for research on these two main civil- legal branches in the legal order of the Republic of Macedonia.

Criminal Law - Applied Program
Bases for developing teaching in this course are the subjects from the courses Criminal Law - general part and special part that are taught in the fourth semester. While giving lectures of this subject, the clinical method is applied rather than the traditional ex cathedra method. Hence, during the classes of this subject, several distinguished examples of cases judged by judicial cases (mostly judgments from the Supreme Court of RM, but also from lower courts) are analyzed, related to any institute of the general part of the Criminal Code or with a particular criminal case of the special part. Also, students under the guidance of the subject teachers simulate situations and work with real clients that the faculty, under certain conditions, gives them free legal aid.

Administrative Law - Applied Program
Enabling students to: - define and understand the notions of administration and administrative function; - to recognize and analyze the legal regulation that regulate organization and functioning of the public administration in the RM; - to examine the basic activities of administrative function; - to make classification between the types of acts of the administration and to master the first steps in the creation of such acts; - to learn the types of administrative supervision; - to recognize control mechanisms over the work of the administration and its responsibility before other state bodies, but also in front of customers - their clients of its services; - for future employment in the administration of RM, non-governmental organizations, as well as all the institutions that decided issues of administrative-legal nature.

The aim of the course is for students to be equipped with solid knowledge in the field of Civil procedure law, namely, from the contested law, the non- contentious law and the Law of enforcement. The Civil Procedural Law - applied program, in the substantive sense is composed in that way so as to include practical aspects of the components of civil procedural law. In this context, students get the opportunity to apply in practice the acquired theoretical knowledge in relevant disciplines.
