The structure of the programme includes studies which by nature are dynamic, integrative and interactive. The programme is designed in a way which offers an integrative approach to themes in the field of languages, cultures and communications, this concept is implemented with this study programme. The courses in this programme represent perspectives based on the theory which is closely linked to the practical application in the world of the language, culture, art, education and communication.
The main goals are:
- To prepare the students for the leadership positions in the educational, cultural, and scientific institutions and organizations in the country and anywhere in the world.
- To prepare the students to build a career related to their profession in the public, private and non-governmental sector.
- To offer a variety of modules which include basic knowledge of the professions which more or less are linked to education and culture.
- To give opportunities to gain research skills and language and literature experience in the public, private and other organizations.
- To develop the concept of critical thinking.
- To enable the students to actively participate in the lectures and do autonomous research in all the fields of the social, educational, cultural and scientific organizations
- To give opportunities for development of the personal skills, the communicative skills, research skills and other valuable skills which are needed for employment.
The undergraduate programme offers the students a deep understanding and knowledge in the field of education and culture, and at the same time it orients them to other fields, which will be mastered in the coming year of studies. The composition of the curriculum aims to balance the combination of basic knowledge with the specific professional skills. The first year is very meaningful for the students, because it links a whole spectre of interdisciplinary courses. This will be of significant importance in their professional building.
The English programme is primarily intended for those interested in becoming one of two things: a teacher, or a translator. Both fields are possible, and we have designed slightly different curricula for each specialization. We have graduates in both fields. Yet beyond teaching and translating,
English offers the key to the world. English is the world’s second language, so there exist possibilities for graduates of our English program to work in teaching, translation, interpretation, journalism, tourist hospitality industries, corporate language instruction, business interpretation, editing, and creative writing.
Knowledge and understanding
- Has enough theoretical and practical knowledge of grammar structures and the Contemporary English vocabulary to satisfy the educational needs.
- Has a language competency equal to or better from the Common European Framework level B2 in all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
- Has knowledge of the English literature in terms of periods, genres and main authors.
- Has basic practical translating skills in general English.
- Understands different strategies of learning and teaching which are used in teaching English as a foreign language.
- Has a good understanding of the different aspects of the history and culture of the English speaking countries.
Applying knowledge and understanding
- Is qualified to teach in mixed environments, in accordance with the law of the Republic of Macedonia.
- Applies an adequate teaching methodology which is in accordance with the student needs.
- Can translate into English and from English into his/her mother tongue for the course content.
- Uses English language adequately in terms of speech and the different types of discourse in different social and professional environments.
Making judgement
- Has the ability to assess literary texts, taking charge of the unknown words, the literary style, symbolism and metaphor.
- Can take clear and informed decisions for issues and debates based on the language, the cultural and literary knowledge.
- Has the ability to analyse the students’ needs and to develop curricula by choosing the right techniques.
Communication skills
- Can articulate his thoughts in a clear way and can communicate his/her messages in academic and spoken English.
- Has the ability to produce and organize correct grammatical phrases and sentences.
- Masters knowledge for self-reliant reading, writing, and speaking about a huge number of literary texts, writes clear arguments using text citations with a logical progress and clarity of explanation.
- Can assess and evaluate cultural trends in the English-speaking world, including philosophers and historical events.
Learning skills
- Has independent learning skills in doing professional tasks, and can show independence in the application of the same in the professional sphere.
- Is capable of developing learning materials in relation to his/ her teaching practice using guidelines and adequate resources.
- Has the capacity to participate in new language and culture occurrences in the English studies, and has the capacity to adapt to the same ones.

Phonetics and Phonology
The course focuses on the basic phonological concepts, like the inventory and distribution of English phonemes, allophones, their characteristics, the morph-phonology, the syllable structure and the syllable characteristics. It also focuses on the acoustic, articulatory, and auditive phonetics, including description and classification of English consonants, and simple and complex vowels.

Contemporary English Language 1
Course objectives: Knowledge and understanding: There is knowledge and understanding of the correct use of tense, comparison of adjectives, indirect speech, infinitive and logical assumptions. There are grammatical and vocabulary competences in discussions on different social themes and contents. Applying knowledge and understanding: The student is able to apply their knowledge in a variety of communicative situations and respond with a high dose of linguistic precision on various topics of debate. It has the knowledge to ask and express, confront and speculate ideas, offers and challenge ideas, and suggest ideas. Communication skills: The student is able to initiate and retain a discussion with a satisfactory dose of tangle. He/she has knowledge and competence to write a well-organized paragraph, and well organized written correspondence. The student has developed skills which enable effective reading. Assessment: The student is capable of using rules different grammatical forms, such as times, verbal constructions, idioms and others. He / she is capable of expressing well-organized thoughts on various topics of debate. Learning skills: Students have developed skills for independent learning through various interactive tools. They are able to find resources for further learning and to improve the four skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking).

Academic Writing in English
The subject aims to enable students to use language skills in the context of academic writing which includes writing an academic paragraph essay and essays that explain the problem and offer a solution to compare and contrast situations and problems and justify thesis or opinion. Furthermore, students should be able to listen and read and understand the essence and details, and to successfully write a paragraph and an essay in which you argue their opinions. They should express their views and opinions by justifying it in a given paragraph or essay. They also need to organize their ideas and to successfully write a paragraph and essay that explain the problem and propose a solution, which provides details, facts and arguments, quoted and cited sources. They should be able to identify main ideas and details in the text, objectives and messages of text, as well as ways of organize text and apply in writing. In advanced stages, the students are expected to switch to writing more complex academic tasks, such as academic paper with a literature review, research, conclusions and recommendations.

Course objectives: • Knowledge and understanding of students: • Use of previous studies poetry and prose of critical approach towards different plays; • Connecting development of English drama with historical and the cultural background they have made. Applying knowledge and understanding: • Use of appropriate critical terminology in writing and speaking; • Checking the great features and the specific details of the field. Making judgment: • Analyze the dramatic works as literary works and as performance; • Detecting, analyzing and interpreting the major differences between great playwrights. Communication skills: • Reads the original works in English; • Compares research and writes an essay with the same presentation order with colleagues; • Forms, performances, support of critical opinions of the text in discussions with the instructor and peers. Learning skills: • Reads the works as a text and as a performance; • Appropriate hour discussion, personal interpretation and independent research essay; • Use of informational performance, influence and deep textual understanding.

Contemporary English Language 2
Course objectives: Knowledge and understanding: Have knowledge and understanding of grammatical structures such as passive voice, conditional sentences, conjunctions, structures, etc. and design examination. There are grammatical and vocabulary competences to attend in discussions on various social themes and content such as environment, ecology, technology, science, fashion etc. Application knowledge and understandings: Able to apply their knowledge in a variety of communicative situations and respond with a high dose of linguistic precision on various topics of debate. Has the knowledge to express interest and concern, expressed assumption, to ask and express interest to appeal, apologize, repeat and confirm. Communication skills: The student is able to initiate and retain a discussion with a satisfactory dose of tangle. Has knowledge and competence to write the essay in a well organized written correspondence. The student has developed skills which enable effective reading. Making judgment: The student is capable of using rules of different grammatical forms, such as times, verbal constructions, idioms and others. Morphology
The course is concentrated on the morphological characteristics of the English language. It also includes the grammatical categories and other word functions of the student’s mother tongue like: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, the definite and indefinite articles, conjunction, numbers and exclamation. Special attention is paid to the form and function of the above mentioned parts of speech.

Course objectives: Knowledge and understanding: • Using and understanding of appropriate critical vocabulary associated with poetry and poetic models; • Employment of critical skills in the interpretation of poetic texts; • Demonstrate historical understanding of poets, their lives, their styles and their achievements. Application of knowledge and understanding: • Introduction and evaluation of the development of English poetry from Chaucer and Larkin. • Identifying similar themes in poetry and analyzing various treatments. • Linking specific genres, styles and movements with suitable crops in specific chronological periods. Making judgment: • Identifying the different levels of removal in poetry writing. • Generating and articulating interpreted praise songs. • Assess the adequacy of concerned metrical form. Communication skills: • Read the works in their original form in English • Perform careful research in a written essay and present the findings to the class • Involvement in critical and aesthetic discussion of the materials studied with the teacher and other class members. Students in this course will enrich their linguistic experiences: Knowledge and understanding: - use of complex grammatical structures such as dependent sentences and indirect questions; developing sensitivity to Anglo cultures and English communication style. Applying knowledge: - Interrupting politely and to contribute to class discussions; speculation in discourse; establishment of accurate grammatical and stylistic vocabularies showing correct use of verb forms, comparisons and descriptive language. Communication skills: - expressing advantage, dissatisfaction, intentions, feelings and complaints, writing essays and formal correspondence, develop fluent speaking and writing. Making judgment: - Revising writing, reading and listening for motive and details, expressing language of investigation and trends and exploring their different contexts; using appropriate language in a given situation, including but not limited to academic and everyday expressions. Contemporary English Language 4
In this course students will enrich their linguistic experiences in terms of: Communication skills: Sending account, buying things, telling experiences, contrasting ideas, expressing feelings, follow discourse; and make corresponding proposals, expressing probability, advantages / disadvantages, deciding on food / drinks, and expresses agreement/ disagreement. Applying knowledge: Approving ideas; expressing annoyance / sympathy, making deductions, suggestions, accepting / rejecting / deciding; giving compliments, alternatives; making assumptions; producing more grammatically and stylistic correct sentences that demonstrate proper use of passive verb forms. Making judgment: Reviewing writing, reading and listening, main details, research on investigations, trends in different contexts, using appropriate language in a given situation, including academic and social expressions. Knowledge and understanding: Use of complex grammatical structures such as clauses of concession, modal verbs, the passive, quantifiers, indirect questions; using vocabulary associated to forensics, evolution of education, heredity, space and food; Development of the sensitivity of the Anglo- cultures and English communication styles. The course investigates the methods, techniques, approaches and theories of translation. It gives instructions for successful translation and at the same time it gives instructions for uninterrupted interpretation. The focus is on translating literary texts like prose and poems, other documents are analysed and translated like newspaper articles, official documents and professional texts from the field of business, law, and administration. The course also examines the ethic, morale, and responsible translation.

Translation 2
The course introduces new information related to teaching vocabulary in the EFL classroom. It includes a description of how vocabulary is learned, how it is used in speaking and writing, and discussions for the current best practices of teaching vocabulary. Specific questions related to this course are: what does it mean to know a word, how many words are there, which words should be learned, explicitly against the random learning of vocabulary, the importance of reading in learning vocabulary, strategies for learning vocabulary, vocabulary teaching techniques and vocabulary testing.

English Language Teaching Methodology 1
This course aims to introduce the students to the theoretical and practical schools of teaching and learning the English language, it also reflects on the modern teaching methodologies of English as a foreign language. The course investigates ways of how a lecture can be delivered by using different approaches and methodologies. The topics included are: Learning a foreign language at basic level, teaching all language skills, teaching vocabulary, teaching grammar and pronunciation, planning and lecturing, using literature in teaching, technology in teaching, testing and assessment, etc.

Testing and Assesment
This course aims to introduce the students to the basic principles and needs to prepare and apply the process of assessment. Through this introduction the students identify the main types of assessment, the difference between the standard and alternative form of assessment. An important aspect in this process is the validity of the instruments used in assessment. During the semester, students will be introduced to different types of tests, the types of questions and assignments and the needs while designing the tests and the implementation of the assessment process.

This course aims to introduce the basic principles needed to prepare and apply in modern academic courses. By getting introduced to these principles, students can differentiate between the different types of courses depending on students’ needs and needs of the market. A very important element in this process is the verification of the validity and reliability of the instruments used in the process of evaluation and preparation of the course. The implementation of the standard principles known to the academy and pedagogy is important too.

English Language Teaching Methodology 2
The course is devoted to the review of methods and techniques used in teaching English as a foreign language. It is additionally aimed at presenting students with basic procedures used in foreign language lessons within the suggested topics and with the main elements of designing a lesson plan. Students are requested to prepare and conduct mini-teaching projects, evaluate materials and teaching techniques as well as prepare own activities which can be used in English lessons. After the completion of the course students should possess sufficient general and practical knowledge and feel confident enough to be able to teach English in primary and secondary schools.

Capstone Project (practicum)
The main aim is to help student conduct research on a self-chosen topic in the field of English Language. The Capstone Project is a piece of scholarly research that gives students an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their bachelor studies. Students are supervised by a staff member, a mentor, who guides them through the research process and writing their project. The Capstone project must provide a detailed and substantiated account of the thematic, methodological and theoretical basis for the work. The empirical material under analysis should be presented in a clear manner, also showing the links to the theoretical framework and the methodology employed. In addition to this, the capstone project should follow the basic principles of research ethics.

Psychology of Education
The course aims to offer development of learning and teaching, basic concepts and practices that allow teachers to teach the development of thought. Students will gain a theoretical basis and general strategies that develop thinking and their ability to reflect the opinion, a process often referred to as metacognition, students will learn about the different strategies that encourage teaching and about the opinion also they will have the task to design and evaluate their strategies. To encourage reflective thinking and metacognitive knowledge among students, participants will have the opportunity to inform the development, learning, teaching, habits, critical thinking and the process of solving problems. Students become familiar with the subject of pedagogical psychology. Students become familiar with the methods and techniques of pedagogical psychology. Students to use methods and techniques in psychological problems in education. Learning and learning factors, types of learning, behavioral and cognitive learning, theories and practices of learning. Learning theorise and cabilities. The structure of capabilities and its species and transfer of learning.

Knowledge and understanding of students: Students who successfully complete this course will gain: - Theoretical and practical knowledge about lesson planning and teaching; - Theoretical knowledge and understanding of curriculum planning; - Knowledge of academic planning objectives, processes and functions related to various types lesson eg. lecture / practical / etc; - Understand the planning and management of classrooms; Applying knowledge and understanding: - Be prepared to teach in primary and secondary schools in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Macedonia; - Applying the appropriate methodology that meets the needs of students; - Use appropriate functional styles and different types in order to impart knowledge to students; Making judgment - Evaluation and selection of strategies and materials for designated hours; - Giving clear and informed opinions about discussing cultural issues; - Analysis for the purposes of the student as well as design and development of classes by selecting appropriate materials and resources; Communication skills: - Ability to clearly articulate thoughts / ideas and convey messages in English to different groups of students; - To produce a well-conceived, designed and implemented hours; - Reading, writing and speaking with confidence ethically and honestly about topics and issues from different areas; Learning skills: - Have independent skills in performing professional tasks and show independence in posts in the professional sphere; - Can develop materials related to their practice area through the use of guidelines and adequate resources;
