The aim of the physiotherapist's education is to meet the health needs of the individual, the group and the whole social community, as follows:

  • Preserving and promoting the health of people, children, the weak, incapacitated for work and disabled;
  • Prevention of many diseases related to physical activity and healthy lifestyle, modern treatment without invasive methods with application of physiotherapeutic procedures, with therapeutic effect;
  • Health-educational activity;
  • Work in health teams, rehabilitation institutes and physical therapy and rehabilitation departments;
  • Development of the physiotherapy practice through research methods.

Aim for education in the field of physiotherapy is the role that the physiotherapist has in the environment in which he/she lives and works, the determination to help the individual, group and family to determine and achieve their physical, mental and social needs and abilities. The physiotherapist is required to practice and develop functions that prevent and maintain health, disease prevention and enable the application of modern therapeutic and rehabilitation procedures. The physiotherapist is the main carrier of the activities of medical gymnastics in the physiotherapeutic treatment.

Knowledge and understanding

Recognizes and remembers well-established thematic areas related to the fields of fundamental sciences, especially the subjects of anatomy and kinesiology and the subjects in the  fields of clinical medicine, important for medical education in the physiotherapy profession;

Engages in a discussion of key aspects, needs and problems in physiotherapy practice through research methods.

Follows professional and scientific research in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Applying knowledge and understanding

Works independently and as a member of the team in the field of rehabilitation;

According to the principle "Kinesiotherapy for all" conducts kinesiotherapy in social and educational institutions, special institutions and schools as well as at home in order to psychologically adapt to the conditions in which the patient or the person with reduced working ability and ability to self-care continues the  life more independently;

Uses physical therapy as a method of treatment and evaluates the technique and methods of applications;

Independently applies kinesiotherapy and assesses dosage, duration and load in order to enable functional activity in daily life and work of persons with disabilities;

Independently prepares the plan and program for training;

Assess the functional activity of persons with disabilities using objective assessment methods;

Selects the most favorable methods of physical therapy and kinesiotherapy;

Monitors the results of functional activities;

Establishes and maintains such relationships with the patient that will maintain the necessary degree of motivation for active cooperation during therapy and rehabilitation;

 Prevents the development of behavioral disorders that are a consequence of the patient's physical disability;

Takes care of the education of the environment in which the patient or the disabled person is by applying the basic preventive procedures regarding the intensity of the help and self-help of the patient;

He/she is trained for motoric application of all concepts of kinesiotherapy that are applied today and of all physical aids and aids in kinesiotherapy;

Appointment of the physiotherapist in the function of a leading role in the organization of certain forms of work (coordination of the work and activities of the secondary-medical, highly professional medical staff and the non-medical staff),

Work in the field of prevention, treatment, care, rehabilitation and problem solving outside the healthcare organization (institutionally and at home);

Labor market readiness and inter-institutional mobility within the country and beyond.

Making judgement

Analyzes the state of health in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation and makes an assessment regarding the application of methods and techniques of application in the treatment of the patient;

Makes an appropriate assessment in the application of knowledge in the field of professional subjects, consistently following the medical ethics and deontology, taking care of keeping the medical secret;

He/she successfully combines theory with practice, researches in finding the risk factors for the occurrence of the disease and thus helps in solving the health problems that are in the domain of the physiotherapy profession.

Has the ability to evaluate and make decisions in the field of expertise, in a complex setting and with a high degree of complexity.

Communication skills

Applies communication skills effectively during team work, in communication with the patient and family when performing therapeutic and rehabilitation treatment;

Takes active part in domestic and international physiotherapy associations;

Participates in team work, actively collaborates in group work, a common form of work in health care, by sharing responsibilities and various activities.

Learning skills

Continuously monitors the latest medical scientific achievements and participates in the preparation of professional papers and presents them at various sections, seminars, conferences, congresses, etc.;

Takes the initiative for continuous professional advancement, with a high degree of independence in decision-making in the domain of the profession, as well as readiness to transfer the knowledge and skills to his colleagues;

Develops interest in professional research, improvement of techniques and principles of kinesiotherapy as well as interest for personal continuous training;

An important moment in the work of the physiotherapist is his responsible attitude towards the patient, co-workers and members of the rehabilitation team.

    The aim of the course is students to gain basic theoretical as well as practical knowledge and knowledge of the basic principles in the field of human physiology, by getting acquainted with the characteristics and function of organs and organ systems in humans and the mechanisms of control.
  • [C2341] [4 ECTS] Basics of Physiotherapy for Adults and Children
    Aims of the course: - Analysis of activities in the health care system (hospital and types of hospital facilities); - Describing the characteristics of a hospital room and manipulations with bedding and clothing; - Keeping medical documentation and records; - Administration and sanitation during the admission of a patient; - Application of procedures for different positions of the bed and transport of the patient; - Maintaining personal hygiene and toilet in a patient who is immobile; - Planning and team implementation of techniques for prevention of physical discomfort; - Need and implementation of various hygienic-diet regimes and types of artificial nutrition; - Participation in a medical visit; - Explanation, identification and application of medical instruments; - Implementation of methods of asepsis, antisepsis disinfection and sterilization - Description, preparation and use of medical bandage material; - Analysis and monitoring of pathological subjective and objective symptoms in the patient; - Measurement, recording and observation of pathological and physiological values of vital functions (pulse, body temperature, blood pressure and respiration); - Observation, recording and distribution of secretions; - Use, storage and application of drugs; - Applying health ethics and confidentiality with the health team; - Implementing proper protection of the working and wider environment; - Knowledge and application of rules for prevention of nosocomial infections; -

    During the study of the course, students will acquire basic knowledge and insights about the individual health, its physical, spiritual and social essence, public and individual health, understanding of health as a unity of spiritual, physical and genetic component, and will be introduced to the terms: culture of personality, comprehensively developed personality, physical culture of the person; holistic approach to health as a mechanism of improving health of each individual and society as a whole. They will gain basic knowledge about the earliest development of the personality and body of a child and an adult, as well as basic knowledge of developmental theories.
  • [C2342] [6 ECTS] Basics of Physiotherapy, Biomechanics and Kinesiology with Pathokinesiology
    In the field of Physiotherapy, students should gain basic knowledge about the artificial sources of physical agents, their use in physical therapy, method of obtaining, biological and physiological action of physical agents, their dosage, as well as indications and contraindications for their use. They will get acquainted with the ways of application of physical agents, as well as with the dangers and possible mistakes at work. Students will gain insights into the role of physical therapy in the process of rehabilitating the injured and sick. In the field of kinesiology with pathokinesiology, students will gain basic knowledge about exercise that aims to improve health, optimal development of human characteristics, abilities and motor skills and their maintenance, prevention of premature decline of certain anthropological characteristics and motor knowledge through 4 different areas: Kinesiological recreation; Kinesitherapy; Kinesiology education; Sport. They will acquire basic knowledge of Kinesiological Psychology. In the part of Pathokinesiology, the basic knowledge of the most frequent deviations from the normal bodily functioning of the human body is to be acquired.

    Aims of the course: Introduction to anatomy as a morphological science, getting acquainted of professional terminology, complete study of the locomotor system of the extremities. Introduction to the anatomy of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, as well as the synoptic, skeletal and holotopy ratios of the organs in these body cavities.

    Students should acquire the basic principles of the application of kinesiotherapy in therapy and prophylaxis in medical rehabilitation, acquire knowledge about the positive effect of kinesiotherapy on the mental and social condition of the patient, get acquainted with the methods of kinesiotherapy and the means of kinesiotherapy. They should be able to test the functions of kinesiotherapy, gain knowledge of the indications and contraindications in kinesiotherapy as well as insight into the effectiveness of kinesiotherapy in reciprocity with other physical agents and approaches.
  • [C2265] [5 ECTS] Theory and History of Occupational Therapy and Involvement in Daily Activities
    Students should gain basic knowledge of the historical development of the idea of occupational therapy as well as the practical application of various approaches and methods in different historical periods of human history. From the period of Antiquity, through the Enlightenment and the advanced ideas of that period, to the modern time and way of approaching occupational therapy as well as its implementation in everyday life and education as well as studies on the science of occupational therapy.
  • [C2266] [8 ECTS] Diagnosis and Processes in Occupational Therapy
    Students should gain basic knowledge in the field of capacity building, skills, competencies and support for vocational rehabilitation and social inclusion of people with the most common injuries and disabilities. They will be introduced with the rules for vocational rehabilitation and personal assistance services, provisions of vocational rehabilitation services, assistance to employees in retaining a job position or gaining employment. Knowledge of recommendations for employers, Individual assessments of functional capacity, compliance with the person and the environment-supportive work environment, interventions in vocational rehabilitation in the development of self-confidence; communication and interpersonal skills; anger control; and stress management through techniques of Occupational Psychology, Physiotherapy, Kinesiology, Occupational Physicians and Vocational Rehabilitation.

    Aims of the course: Students to get acquainted with the general surgical principles and to master the general surgical principles of the abdomen and thorax. Students will be introduced with the basics of orthopedics and traumatology for nurses / general practitioners.  
  • [C2269] [8 ECTS] Health Care in Patients with Internal Diseases
    Aims of the course: Students will acquire basic theoretical and practical knowledge and knowledge about the basic internal conditions and diseases in order to understand better the basic principles of health care for patients with internal diseases. Students will acquire skills for practical application of the learned theoretical knowledge for health care appropriate to the specific internal diseases and the specifics of the level of health care.
  • [C2268] [6 ECTS] Health Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy
    Aims of the course: Through theoretical teaching units, students will be educated on what is rehabilitation medicine, what are its goals, where it is applied and what are the latest recommendations that are practiced in patients with different pathology. In order to define better the material, a brief repetition of the theoretical part in the field of pathogenesis, clinical picture and therapy of the most common diseases and conditions that require rehabilitation is needed. Special attention is paid to defining the role of the nurse in the rehabilitation process. During the internship, students should acquire: skills for proper approach to patients and their triage. Through practical examples they will be involved in the planning and development of individualized rehabilitation plans for patients with different pathologies. Prospective nurse technicians will gain knowledge to support patients during the rehabilitation process.

    Students will acquire basic knowledge of the various techniques used in physiotherapy treatment, such as: Acupuncture, Water Therapy (Hydrotherapy), Aerobic Activities, Cardiopulmonary, Dry Needle, Edema Control (Drop), Electrical Stimulation (Electrotherapy), and Therapy , Floor exercises, Manual therapy, Movement and / or walking training, Stabilization and / or balance training (Vestibular therapy), Therapeutic ultrasound, Weight training, Work hardening and the like.
  • [C2279] [6 ECTS] Natural Physiotherapy Methods, Climatotherapy, Balneology with Hydrotherapy
    Students will be introduced to the basic natural methods of therapeutic approaches such as climatic therapy, hydro and balneotherapy as an integral part of physical therapy, will study climatotherapy, classification of mineral waters, their mechanisms of action on the human body, as well as methods and methods of application, different types of mineral waters, their composition and physiological effect on the organism. The second part they will study the different techniques, methods and approaches in balneotherapy, dosing in hydrotherapy and the basic principles for combining water with other physical factors and the rules for compiling a physiotherapy program depending on the diagnosis and the general condition of the patient. The terms SPA, thalassotherapy, peloidotherapy, vapotherapy, psamotherapy, climatology, etc. are included in the curriculum.

    Students to acquire the basic knowledge about functioning of a healthy person as well as pathologically changed person, professional preparation for the basics of health psychology for nurses and physiotherapists and the implications for communication between patient and professional general care with special attention to care for people with psychological disorders. Students will be provided with theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of medical psychology, knowledge about the impact of psychological factors on health and illness, as well as the impact of illness and somatic difficulties on the development of psychological problems, competencies to support patients, attitude towards health, participation in organization of preventive health programs, maintenance and promotion of mental health, patient approach, application of communication skills to establish contact with the patient. They will be introduced with the basic principles of medical ethics, the patient- doctor and doctor-doctor relationship, social determinants of health, health policies, sociological context of health and disease, stress, domestic violence, violence / child abuse, gender-based violence, community violence.

    Students will get acquainted with the meaning and use of the most modern technical methods in diagnosis and therapy in medicine, with special emphasis on the role of the nurse / technician in the preparation and implementation of the methods.

    Introduction to the basics of orthoses as well as orthopedic aids, prostheses, immobilization, movement direction control, support, prevention and correction of deformities, function assistance, static and dynamic orthoses. Kinesio taping , early mobilization of fractures or soft tissue injuries, position and force vectors, reduction of tension / load in postural correction.

    Aims of the course are students: • To acquire knowledge about the basics of organization, management and leadership in health care and nursing, organizational and managerial concepts, processes and functions; • To understand the role and importance of the organization of work in health care and nursing and health management; • To get acquainted with the theoretical and practical models of organizing health care and nursing activity at various levels of health; • To be able critically to analyze practice in relation to theoretical principles; • To be able to analyze individual organizational problems in practice, as well as on the basis of theoretical knowledge to propose possible solutions for problems.

    In the realization of the program, students will acquire knowledge about the role of the physiotherapist in the multidisciplinary treatment of rheumatic diseases of the patient, they will gain understanding of the applied physiotherapy methods in chronically ill patients in order to control pain, deformities and maintain functional independence. Possibilities of restoring functionality in the patient's condition will be reviewed.

    Students will get acquainted with basic skills and abilities necessary for medical technicians as well as professional competence to provide quality health care to patients in the field of gynecology and obstetrics.
