Following the meeting, Ambassador Canel delivered a lecture to SEEU students entitled “What Kind of Future Do You Want?”
On behalf of SEEU, Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi, Advisor for Community and International Relations, welcomed the Ambassador. In her remarks, she highlighted the Netherlands' special historical ties with the University and the significant contribution of the Dutch Government to its establishment and development.
“The Netherlands holds a special place in the history of our University. From its very beginnings, the Dutch Government has been an important partner in supporting the establishment and development of SEEU and its vision of an inclusive, multilingual and internationally oriented university,” emphasised Prof. Dr. Besa Arifi.
She added that, in the year SEEU celebrates the 25th anniversary of its establishment, the University expresses its special gratitude for its longstanding friendship and cooperation with the Netherlands.
During her lecture, Ambassador Canel spoke about the role of the Netherlands as a member state of the European Union, encouraging students to reflect on the future they wish to build and on the role of EU member states in the process of European integration.
The lecture was followed by a constructive discussion with students, who raised questions about ways to encourage young people to envision their future in their home country, take an active role in society and make a tangible contribution to its development.
The meeting and lecture reaffirmed the importance of relations between SEEU and the Netherlands, as well as the value of dialogue on the European perspective and opportunities to deepen cooperation through joint initiatives and projects.
